Eye on Fashion, The Roaring 20′s: The Great Gatsby Releases 2013!
My bet is that this film will certainly make a mark in the fashion industry starting late 2012 & moving into early 2013. The 1920′s were, after all, the decade where modern fashion was born. Even today, you will often see inspiration pulled from this magical era when Coco Chanel ruled and women decided that they would in fact look stunning and proper in a fetching trouser.
The Great Gatsby was originally scheduled to release December 25, 2012 Nationwide, but has been moved to early 2013 with no specific date confirmed. As the video clips and trailers are widely released nationwide, I can see the biggest names in fashion being drawn irresistibly to 1920′s flair. And, I can envision this new movement being compentently led by the films two beautiful style mavens Carey Mulligan and Isla Fisher. The trends I predict are short hair, boots, dropped waist dresses, Coco Chanel inspired fashion, art deco, cloche hats, panama hats, sparkly head wraps and flapper inspired styles.
Starring: Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire, Carey Mulligan, Isla Fisher, Elizabeth Debicki, Joel Edgerton
Based on the book by F. Scott Fitzgerald
Distributed by: Warner Bros. Pictures
Synopsis: The Great Gatsby follows would-be writer Nick Carraway as he leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City in the spring of 1922, an era of loosening morals, glittering jazz and bootleg kings. Chasing his own American Dream, Nick lands next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby, and across the bay from his cousin, Daisy, and her philandering, blue-blooded husband, Tom Buchanan. It is thus that Nick is drawn into the captivating world of the super-rich, their illusions, loves and deceits. As Nick bears witness, within and without the world he inhabits, he pens a tale of impossible love, incorruptible dreams and high-octane tragedy, and holds a mirror to our own modern times and struggles.

I saw the trailer a fee nights ago and fell back in love with the fashion of that era. You can already see in the past couple of years where headbands are reminiscent of the hair accessories of that time. So classy!

My group in my intro to fashion merchandising class did a fashion diary for the 1920s trend! We found several other current shows and movies such as Boardwalk Empire and Water for Elephants that served as inspiration. We predicted that this fun and free style will kick off even more after the movie is released.
